How to: Compact a database.
Solution:
Select 'Database Utilities' from the 'Tools' menu, select 'Compact Database...', then specify the database to compact and a name for the compacted copy, and click 'Save'.
1) If any database is still open, close the database.
NOTE: In a multi-user environment, have all users close the database to compact before performing the rest of the steps.
2) Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Database Utilities'. (A submenu appears.)
NOTE: 'Database Utilities' is available only when NO databases are open.
3) Select 'Compact Database...' from the submenu. (The Database to Compact From dialog box appears.)
4) Select the drive where the desired database is located from the 'Look in' drop-down list.
5) Select the folder containing the database to compact from the 'Look in' list box. (The database file is displayed.)
NOTE: If the file is in a subfolder, continue selecting folders until the file is displayed.
6) Select the database file from the 'Look in' list box. (The file is highlighted.)

7) Click 'Compact'. (The Compact Database Into dialog box appears.)
8) Type a name for the compacted copy of the database in the 'File name' box.
